CBL Properties, which owns and manages malls throughout the United States, has announced that its 60 properties will be shutting for Thanksgiving.

This is the second year CBL has decided to close for the holiday. Its properties will reopen at 6 a.m. on the following day, Black Friday.
“Nothing is set in stone forever, but it’s a very high likelihood we will continue this unless the circumstances change,” CEO Stephen Lebovitz told CNBC.
Department stores, movie theaters, restaurants, and retailers with exterior mall entrances will have the option to open on Thursday, but access to common areas will remain restricted.
In a letter to employees, Lebovitz called Thanksgiving a special holiday.
“It is one of the few days when we can gather with family and friends to give thanks, share a meal, and just enjoy time together,” he said. “Last year CBL Properties wanted to do our part to preserve this wonderful tradition and made the decision to close our centers on Thanksgiving. While we believed this was the right choice, we were thrilled with the overwhelming amount of support and appreciation from our employees, our retailers, and most of our shoppers and members of the communities that we serve.”
