Jewelers of America announced that Will & Grace star Debra Messing will receive the GEM Award for Jewelry Style at the 16th annual GEM gala.
Messing will be honored for increasing the visibility of fine jewelry and watches.
The actress’s knowledge of jewelry began as a child; her father worked in jewelry manufacturing.
“Jewelry has been a passion of mine since my father produced the Tiffany heart in his factory in the ’70s,” she said in a statement. “My father taught me that jewelry is wearable art and I have spent countless hours learning about the evolution of design.”
Past honorees include Madeleine K. Albright and Russell Simmons.
In addition to acting, Messing is the global health ambassador for Population Services International (PSI), focusing on HIV/AIDS. She also supports the Human Rights Campaign, Everytown for Gun Safety, and Joyful Heart Foundation
The GEM Awards will take place Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. The gala will also include the presentation of Sally Morrison with a lifetime achievement award.
