Russian diamond producer Alrosa has introduced The Dynasty, a collection of five diamonds mined and manufactured in Russia, all from the same uncut stone.
The Dynasty Diamond consists of five diamonds all derived from a 179 ct. Alrosa-mined gem (pictured, below), recovered in 2015. That piece of rough has been dubbed the Romanovs—a name which deliberately evokes the heritage of Russia, and not incidentally, the proud tradition of Russian diamond cutting, which dates back to the 18th century.
“We would like to show the world that Russia can not only mine but polish diamonds,” says an Alrosa spokesman, adding that this is just the first in a series of initiatives Alrosa has planned.
The highlight of the collection is the 51.38 ct. Dynasty (below), a brilliant cut D VVSI triple-excellent round. Alrosa describes it as “the largest polished diamond with the best clarity characteristics ever manufactured in Russia.”
Other diamonds in the collection: A 16.67 ct. round brilliant-cut diamond named The Sheremetevs; the 5.05 ct. The Orlovs; the 1.73 ct. pear-shape The Vorontsovs; and 1.39 ct. The Yusupovs.
The diamonds will be auctioned online as a complete set.
