Mayor’s Jewelers opened a new store in the Broward Mall in Plantation, Fla. It replaces another Mayor’s store that had been in another location in the mall. The new store features a new point-of-sale merchandising system that simplifies sales transactions and a new lighting system that allows customers to view jewelry as it would appear in natural sunlight. Architect Peter Blitzstein designed the interior of cherry wood, steel banding and polished green marble. The company operates 19 stores in central and south Florida under the Mayor’s name and five stores in Georgia under the name Maier & Berkele.
Long’s Jewelers opened a new store in the Natick Mall in Natick, Mass. The company carries jewelry from designers such as David Yurman, Christian Bauer and Kurt Wayne and giftware from suppliers such as Baccarat, Fabergé, Orrefors and Waterford. Long’s, established in 1878, also has stores in Boston, Burlington, Peabody and Braintree, Mass.
The Movado Design Store moved to the Rockefeller Center Complex at 630 Fifth Ave., New York, N.Y. 10111. The store comprises a ground-level showroom and a second-floor museum of collectible Movado timepieces.
Salem Jewelers opened a new store in The Woodlands Mall, Woodlands, Tex. The company’s other store is in Houston, Tex.
Fox’s Jewelers, Grand Rapids, Mich., opened a new store in the Janesville Mall, Janesville, Wis. Fox’s Jewelers was established in 1917 and now has 46 stores.
Regency Jewelers and Friedman’s Jewelers both opened new stores in the Brook Highland shopping center in Birmingham, Ala.
Tiffany & Co. opened its first store in Australia in Sydney’s Chifley Plaza. The two-level store features a steel entrance door reminiscent of Tiffany’s Fifth Avenue headquarters.
Decatur City Jewelers opened in Decatur, Ga. The store is owned by Brett Weiler, formerly of Maier & Berkele.
Ken Fellin’s Plaza Jewelry opened in Baton Rouge, La. The new store opened following the closing of Plaza Jewelry Associates.
Premier Jewelers opened a store in Timberstone Center, Harvey, La. It’s the company’s second store.
CLOSINGS
Musso’s Jewelers, founded in 1975, closed its store in the Sherwood Plaza Shopping Center, Baton Rouge, La.
After 16 years, Styles Jewelers closed its doors in Champion Forest Plaza in Houston, Tex.
Gonzalez Jewelers, located at Village Square in Baton Rouge, La., has closed.

Willard’s Jewelry of South Nashville, Tenn., closed after 41 years in business.
RELOCATION
Smugglers Legit Fine Jewelry in the Berkeley Row shopping center in Northbrook, Ill., moved to larger quarters in the same center. The store celebrated the relocation with a one-day estate jewelry sale. Smugglers also launched a breast cancer awareness promotion that it plans to hold each October; customers receive a 10% discount, and the store donates the discount amount to Y-Me, a national support organization for those diagnosed with the disease.
