KING’S CHAIN HONORED BY BUSINESS SCHOOL
King’s Jewelry, a 45-store chain headquartered in New Castle, Pa., was honored as “Western Pennsylvania Family Business of the Year” by the Family Enterprise Center at the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business.
The award program recognizes firms that combine sound business practices and strong family participation. Attributes assessed are positive family-business ties, multigenerational involvement in the business, contribution to the community, and business success.
The chain was founded in Wheeling, W.Va., in 1914 by Jacob F. Perelman. His son, Larry Perelman, took over the business in 1945, after his father’s death. In 1981, Larry Perelman’s son, Dale, became president of King’s Jewelry.
