The Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG), an organization for jewelers, designers, and metalsmiths, will hold its 2001 conference, “Material Considerations,” in Richmond, Va., Feb. 28-March 3, 2001, at the Omni Richmond Hotel in historic Shockoe Slip. The conference’s keynote speaker is Clare Phillips, who will present “100 Years of Collecting-20th Century Jewelry at the Victoria and Albert Museum.”

Assorted tours, lectures, and workshops in 18th-century metal-working practice will be conducted at Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg, Va. Additional pre- and post-conference workshops will be hosted by several regional teaching facilities and studios in Virginia, including Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, the Hand Workshop Art Center in Richmond, Longwood College in Farmville, and an independent blacksmithing studio in Richmond.

SNAG is also hosting an educator’s dialogue on Feb. 28. Its aim is to bring together teachers from around the country to address critical issues confronting jewelry and metals programs.
