In May 2000, Rofin-Sinar Laser GmbH acquired the worldwide Baasel Lasertech Group of Companies, including the 14-year-old Acton, Mass., corporation A-B Lasers Inc. Effective Nov. 1, 2000, A-B Lasers Inc. and the Rofin-Sinar Marking Systems Division of Tempe, Ariz., will join and be known as Rofin-Baasel Inc.

The new entity will be one company with two locations selling turnkey standard and custom-engineered laser marking systems, as well as OEM lasers. The main office, including engineering, manufacturing, applications laboratories, service and spare parts, customer training, sales and administration, will remain in Acton, and the western office in Tempe will house applications laboratories, service and spare parts, sales and customer training. In addition to these offices, the company operates its service from eight locations nationwide and one in Costa Rica.
