Staffordshire Enamels Ltd., Stoke-on-Trent, England, has been purchased by John Carr, a businessman from Scotland. Details of the sale were not available at press time.
Effective immediately, Michael Turner remains as managing director; Ian Marshall, founder/member of the family firm that revived Bilston & Battersea Enamels, joins the company as a director; John Carr becomes chairman; and Ernest Johnson continues as a consultant.
Founded in 1977, Staffordshire Enamels Ltd. specializes in the design, manufacture, and distribution of fine English enamels. Founder/director Ernest Johnson was formerly associated with the ceramic firm of Wedgwood. While at Wedgwood, Johnson was inspired by the beauty of the Schreiber Collection of antique English enamels displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Fascinated by the history of the craft, he was determined to revive a lost English art form.
