The Design Center at the JCK Show ~ Las Vegas will have a new location and ambience for 2003. The well-known Design Center is moving to the upper level of the Sands Convention Center exhibit hall, adjacent to similar high-end specialty pavilions such as The Galleria, Prestige Promenade, and the new Luxury Collection. Other neighbors will include prominent designers such as Damiani, David Yurman, Roberto Coin, Mikimoto, and Scott Kay, plus many more. The new Design Center location is designed to offer high-end buyers greater accessibility, seamless navigation, convenience, and comfort.
The Design Center represents the breadth of the designer jewelry movement and the full range of talent from the most popular designers like LAGOS, Cathy Carmendy, and Stephen Dweck to unique artisans like Christo Kiffer, Kent Raible, and Zoltan David. With its focus on “the future of design,” the Design Center showcases those designers and manufacturers who are leaders in setting cutting-edge trends and standards in designer jewelry.
The pavilion will feature new colors (orange, black and white), expanded buyer lounges, and a wider variety of refreshments available to all visitors. Many Design Center exhibitors, such as John Hardy, John Atencio, Judith Ripka, Stephen Dweck, and Rosen Block Designs, are debuting large custom booths to better serve their customers. The pavilion will also feature clear and concise navigational signage, an exclusive Design Center directory, an exclusive Design Center carrying tote for buyers, and advertorial exposure in JCK magazine.
The Design Center will continue its tradition of admitting new participants through a highly competitive jury selection process. Each year, hundreds of designers vying to exhibit in this key location apply for consideration via the Design Center Jury, comprised of six to nine retailers, designers, and media experts who review all applications and select the most qualified.
“It’s great to see there is a healthy interest and passion about taking design far beyond what it is today and shaping what it will be in the future. The designers found in this section are innovators and pioneers of the trends we market and eventually buy and sell,” says Cindy Edelstein, who has been the JCK Design Center Coordinator since the Show’s inception. “In order for the industry to remain healthy and enjoy consistent and lucrative growth, we need this group, as well as the other industry icons, to take the lead. We’re happy that JCK Show ~ Las Vegas is the venue of choice for them, and we stand behind their efforts.”
Additionally, Design Center Advisory Committee has been established to give input on strategic direction and development for the pavilion and the Show. Cathy Carmendy, president of Cathy Carmendy Designs, comments, “We as a group are happy to see that even though immense changes are taking place for 2003 JCK Show ~ Las Vegas, the individual needs of Design Center exhibitors and buyers have not been forgotten. I am thrilled to be a part of this exciting new re-birth of JCK’s Design Center and look forward to all of the exciting enhancements and improvements in store for the Show as a whole.”
The 10th Annual Designers’ Live Auction, in celebration of its milestone 10th anniversary, will be held Saturday, May 31, in the famed Guggenheim Museum in the Venetian Hotel and Resort, rather than in its traditional Monday evening convention center venue. This year, the Auction invites not only Design Center exhibitors to donate a one-of-a -kind pieces for auction, but it will invite all JCK Show exhibitors to donate pieces as well, increasing everyone’s opportunity for exposure. All proceeds will go to benefit the Future of Design Education Fund, founded by Cindy Edelstein, to support the next generation of design talent. “This is a great opportunity to open the doors to more exhibitors who wish to not only increase their presence at the Show but also to take part in something that benefits the industry as a whole. The Designer’s Live Auction is an example of how the industry mobilizes to reach out to help wherever it can”, said David Bonaparte, vice president of the JCK Shows.
The JCK Shows in Las Vegas and Orlando, Luxury by JCK and JCK’s new Luxury Swiss Watch Gallery are designed to serve the worldwide jewelry industry by offering the most comprehensive and complete buying and selling opportunities on a business-to-business basis.
