The Fiesta Bowl Committee selected Phoenix-based Molina Fine Jewelers to create the trophy for this college championship football game. Designed by Cris Olson, head designer for Molina, it stands nearly 4 ft. tall and weighs 200 lbs.
The trophy features 2,400 diamonds set in 18k gold, sterling silver, and five shades of hand-carved marble. The base floor has an inlaid compass with the four cardinal directions spotlighted, signifying the paths the players take in the game as well as in life. Linemen support the trophy; players at the top guard the ball. The illuminated football is fully removable, and an internal power source keeps it lit even when removed from the trophy. The dome is a lotus flower, which symbolizes purity, strength, power, and the heart of the victors. The ancient Greek word “Nivkh”—Goddess of Victory—is inscribed in a golden curtain below the dome.
