The San Diego Chapter of the Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA) held its November 2002 meeting at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) campus in Carlsbad, Calif. During their visit to the campus, members viewed the new Swarovski Tower of Brilliance, the ruby slippers of Wizard of Oz fame, the Opalized Fossil exhibit, and a talk and slide show featuring Cynthia Marcussen. Her presentation focused on the theme of “jewelry as soul food,” including a discussion on the eternal forms of spirals, circles, waves, crosses, and wind or motion.
The WJA Christmas Party, held in December 2002 at the home of Vicki and Wayne Riggs, finished out the year. A silent auction of items including gift certificates to local restaurants, a cruise, and weekend getaways raised more than $2,000 for the group’s scholarship fund.
