Specialty retail jeweler Signet Group plc’s same-store sales rose 7% in the 13-week period ended Jan. 31. Total sales, at $1,209 million, were up by 9.7% at constant exchange rates, or 2.1% on real terms.
Sales in the U.S., which account for a 68% share of Signet’s sales, were $822 million, up 2% from the comparable period of 2003, while for the year to end January, sales to the U.S. accounted for 69.1% of the group’s sales and reached $2,046 million.
Sales in the U.K., where Signet operates 604 stores, were $387 million, a rise of 6.3%, while for the year, sales reached $917 million.
Signet operated 1,707 specialty retail jewelry stores at 31 January 2004; these included 1,103 stores in the US, where the Group trades as “Kay Jewelers”, “Jared The Galleria Of Jewelry” and under a number of regional names. At the same date Signet also operated 604 stores in the UK, where the Group trades as “H.Samuel”, “Ernest Jones” and “Leslie Davis”
