On Dec. 13, 2003, the Tivol family celebrated Harold Tivol’s 80th birthday in grand style by hosting a party at the Kansas City Starlight Theatre—the third largest outdoor theatre in the country—featuring actor/singer Jim Belushi and the Sacred Hearts Band.
Each attendee contributed a $100 donation to the Alzheimer’s Association Heart of America Chapter. The Tivol family launched the Mollie Tivol Alzheimer Resource Center in honor of Harold’s mother, Mollie Tivol, who suffered from the disease. The center provides a comfortable retreat for caregivers and those who have Alzheimer’s Disease as well as a support system including information sources such as pamphlets, videos, and books.
Partnering with the Tivols for the event were jewelry designers and manufacturing friends from around the world, such as Grey Goose vodka, which provided a specially designed ice-carving martini bar. The highlight of the evening was Jim Belushi’s rendition of “Happy Birthday,” which he—along with more than 400 customers and friends—sang after calling Harold Tivol up onto the stage. At the end of the evening, each guest was presented with a memorable favor: a limited-edition Harold Tivol bobble-head doll.
