Jim Hartstein of Jewels by Joseph, Newport Beach, Calif., has been elected president of the California Jewelers Association (CJA) for 2004. Other officers elected include president-elect Mike Maralian, Dejaun Jewelers, Los Angeles; first vice president Bob Marks, Rogers Jewelry Co., Modesto; second vice president Rick Velayo, Gleim the Jeweler, Palo Alto; and treasurer Allen Kessler, Kessler Jewelers, Burbank.
Hartstein succeeds Keith Norris of K. Norris Jewelers, Riverside, Calif., as head of the largest state association of retail jewelers and suppliers in the United States. Hartstein’s father, Joseph Hartstein, was CJA president in 1975, and Hartstein is only the fourth jeweler to follow in his father’s footsteps and serve as CJA president.
