Robert Wan, the world’s largest producer of Tahitian cultured pearls, celebrated the 30th anniversary of Tahiti Perles on Oct. 8, 2004, along with 800 international guests. The evening was highlighted by an ultra-modern fashion show presenting a retrospective of the best of Tahiti Perles jewelry collections, from its early days up to today. The fashion show culminated in a traditional wedding dress that featured long strands of Tahitian pearls suspended the entire length of the model’s body. Wan, holding a giant, slightly open mother-of-pearl shell, paraded down the runway with the “bride,” who wore 4,568 Tahitian cultured pearls weighing 6.8 kilos (15 lbs.). The wedding dress, made from 37 meters (121 ft.) of silk chiffon) is priced at $98,000.
