The Taylor-Burton diamond: How much does it weigh now?

Originally 69.42 cts. t.w., the colorless pear-shape Elizabeth Taylor–Richard Burton diamond was put up for auction in 1979. But before it could be sold, it needed to be recut—the gem had sustained a few bangs and bruises that only a cutter could cure. After some minor surgery, the slightly slimmer stone went on the block and fetched a healthy $3 million.
