Movie stars weren’t the only faces in the spotlight at this year’s Oscars events. Some fine timepieces were, too, both at the 77th Motion Picture Academy Awards and at pre-Oscar happenings. Jamie Foxx, Best Actor winner for Ray, wore a $25,000 diamond-encrusted pink-gold Hublot watch at pre-Oscar events and a $57,000 platinum and diamond Chris Aire Traveler watch at the ceremonies. Leading-actor nominee Leonardo DiCaprio, star of The Aviator and a collector of Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces, wore the Swiss luxury brand’s one-of-a-kind $310,000 platinum Gyrotourbillon to the Feb. 27 movie-awards event.

Jeweler and watchmaker Chopard co-hosted entertainer Elton John’s 13th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party, which benefits the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Chopard donated watches from its new Elton John collection for an auction at the party and is giving 10 percent of worldwide sales of the collection to the foundation.

Swiss watch brand Carl F. Bucherer was a co-sponsor of entertainment-industry club Soho House’s Oscar Villa. The Villa provided a getaway for guests to relax, meet, and retreat during Oscar-week and Oscar-night frenzy.

Among the treats that Academy Award nominees received in a pre-Oscar gift bag at the World Style 2005 retreat were a $40,000 diamond- studded watch from Swiss-made Aquanautic and a $500 watch from designer brand Givenchy, which will debut in the United States this year.
