A Gemological Institute of America Extension instructor will travel to Yellowknife, the capital of Canada’s Northwest Territories, to teach diamond grading at Aurora College Oct. 17–21. Students will learn to grade diamonds consistently and accurately using the International Diamond Grading System created by GIA.

Those who attend the class will receive a GIA Diamond Grading kit and the Institute’s Diamond Grading Lab Manual. The class also fulfills one Extension requirement for completing the Institute’s Graduate Gemologist (G.G.) diploma and Graduate Diamonds Diploma through Distance Education.

Yellowknife, with a current population of more than 16,000, was once a vast wilderness, but is now becoming a modern city with a flourishing diamond industry. In little over a decade, the Northwest Territories have become the world’s third-largest diamond producer.
