India Show Changes Dates

The India International Jewellery Show has announced a date change for the 2006 event. It will be held May 4 to May 8, 2006, in Mumbai, India—three days later than its original dates of April 27 to May 1. The show remains at the NSE Grounds at Goregaon in Mumbai.

Bahkul Mehta, chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India said the change was made in response to requests from Council members. The original dates fell across the festivals of Akshay Tritia and Baisakhi, both of which are popular for retail sales.

IIJS 2005 attracted more than 25,000 domestic visitors and 1,500 international visitors, according to a GJPEC press release. These figures represent a 20 percent gain in business over the previous year’s figures.

The GJEPC represents 6,500 gem and jewelry exporters from India. Founded in 1966, it operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the government of India and elected representatives of the jewelry industry.
