Reed Business Information, New York, the parent company of JCK magazine, has named Tad Smith as chief executive officer. Prior to his promotion to CEO, Smith was president of RBI’s Media Division, which in addition to JCK and other retail publications includes such notable titles as Variety, Publishers Weekly, and many more.
Smith is also an adjunct associate professor at the Stern School of Business at New York University, where he teaches a corporate finance and strategy course on entertainment, media, and technology companies. He is on the advisory board of the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., where he is chairman of the New York Roundtable on international relations for business executives. He is a nominee of the 2006 Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum, a director of The Creative Coalition, and a member of the Young President’s Organization and the Economic Club of New York City.
Smith holds an MBA from Harvard University and a B.A. from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Among his many awards and honors, Smith was designated one of the 40 most influential magazine executives by FOLIO magazine, the business publication for the magazine publishing industry.
