The founders of Bédat & Co., the Swiss luxury watch brand, have resigned from it. Christian Bédat, creative director and chief executive officer, and his mother, Simone, chairman of the board, left in mid-October. Christian Bédat’s departure was announced Oct. 18 by the Gucci Group N.V., which owns the brand. His mother’s resignation wasn’t announced, but was confirmed to JCK by a Gucci spokesperson.
No reason was given for the departure. A Gucci Group spokesman cited “personal reasons.” Earlier press reports suggested Christian Bédat allegedly had some differences with Gucci over its strategy and plans for the brand. The Gucci spokesman couldn’t confirm or deny that.
Bédat & Co. was founded in 1996 by Christian and Simone Bédat, who earlier was a founding partner of Raymond Weil S.A., another luxury Swiss watch brand. Gucci acquired it in December 2000.
Until a replacement was appointed, Jean-Christophe Bedos, CEO of Boucheron, the Paris-based luxury jewelry and watch company owned by Gucci, was to lead Bédat & Co.
