The Women’s Jewelry Association has announced its 2007 Student Scholarship Program. The deadline for receipt of applications and required materials is May 1.
Student Scholarships funds are raised from the WJA Silent Auction held during its annual Awards for Excellence dinner in New York in July and from corporate and individual donations. Current contributors include The Bell Group/Rio Grande, Phyllis & Ira Bergman, Finlay Fine Jewelry, Helene Fortunoff, Gumuchian Fils Ltd., The June Herman Memorial Fund, I.B. Goodman, Kaiser Time, M. Markman-Suberi Bros., David B. Rosenberg, Samuel Aaron Co., and Billie Sutter.
Scholarships, ranging from $500 to a top prize of $5,000 for the June Herman Scholarship, are available to female students who are enrolled in jewelry and watch design courses in the United States between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2007. Scholarship recipients are selected by a panel of judges from the jewelry and watch industries and will be announced in late June or early July.
To be eligible, a candidate must submit an application form found at www.womensjewelry.org/awards/scholarships.htm; a short essay; and three slides of recent work, ranked.
