James H. Stuckey, founder of the Houston-based Stuckey Co., died recently at age 87. Stuckey, a merchant marine, was 27 when he first visited Johannesburg, South Africa, and became interested in diamonds. He decided to go into the jewelry business and, with a partner, began The Stuckey and Speer Co. in 1951. He founded the Stuckey Co. in 1971. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jane; daughter Barbara; daughter Holly Brandt; and son, Jay, who now heads the Stuckey Co.
