Anniversary Omega Speedmasters Sell for Twice Their Estimates

Four limited edition Omega Speedmaster Professionals, each the last in the line celebrating the famous chronograph’s 50th anniversary, sold for almost twice their estimates at a charity auction in Berlin on July 11.

Organized by Antiquorum, the world’s leading horological auctioneers, the event took place in Berlin, at the renown KaDeWe department store.

The four Speedmasters went under the hammer of Antiquorum president Osvaldo Patrizzi. There were one white gold, one pink gold and one yellow gold Speedmaster, from a series of 57, and one stainless steel model, No 1957 in a series of 1957. They sold for $63,000, $48,000, $48,000, and $21,000, respectively.

Prospective buyers bid in person at KaDeWe itself, by telephone or via the Internet from around the world. The results “confirm the increasing desirability of Omega watches among collectors,” said Patrizzi.

All proceeds from the auction went to charities for children.
