Shri Ashok Shankarrao Chavan, chief minister of Maharashtra, India, kicked off the annual India International Jewellery Show, sponsored by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, which runs from Aug. 6 – 10.
IIJS 2009 has 704 exhibitors in 1,553 stalls displaying jewelry, loose stones, equipment, and other products. Country pavilions include Belgium, Dubai, Israel, Italy, Thailand, and Turkey. The Solitaire Awards, honoring jewelry designers, will take place tomorrow at The Renaissance in Powai.
The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council is an Indian trade organization for the gem and jewelry sector. It represents 5,500 members and operates under the supervision of India’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
