The leading department stores in the United States got a boost in
sales during the month of December.
Nordstrom saw the biggest bump, raking in
$1.394 billion—an 11.9 increase over 2009. Saks’ comparable-store sales shot up 11.8 percent, and
Macy’s reported a 28.9 percent increase in online sales.
Highlights of the four stores’ sales results (five
weeks ended Jan. 1):
Macy’s
- Net sales: $4.619 billion, up 4.5%
- Same-store sales: Up 3.9%
- Online sales: Up 28.4%
Saks Fifth Avenue
- Net sales: $432.2 million, up 9.8%
- Comparable-store sales: Up 11.8%
Nordstrom
- Net sales: $1.394 billion, up 11.9%
- Same-store sales: Up 8.4%
Neiman Marcus
- Net Sales: $583 million, up 4.9%
- Comparable-store sales: Up 4.7%
