Last week when I vowed to make every Britt’s Pick until Valentine’s Day a piece of heart jewelry, I didn’t anticipate featuring a gorgeous pair of earrings like these under such horrifying circumstances as the L.A. wildfires.
Many members of our industry have been affected by the fires still raging across Los Angeles, and others are rallying to support relief efforts however they can—donating money from jewelry sales, volunteering to help in person, and collecting food, clothing, and other essential items for the displaced. In the face of that which can’t be controlled, we can only focus on what we can do to make an impact.
These Emily P. Wheeler heart-shaped amethyst studs are being sold for the cause: As of Jan. 9, the brand is donating 100% of the proceeds to the wildfire relief fund of either the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) or the California Community Foundation.
I would have been appreciative of these earrings in any case—I love the complementing enamel, the sparkle of diamonds, the seasonally perfect amethysts.
They’re the kind of earrings that are equally marvelous worn alone or paired with huggies or even another pair of hearts. The studs’ puffy style is nostalgic and ultrafeminine and, above all, fun—all qualities one might hope to find in heart jewelry.
The designer offers this style with other gemstones, but she selected amethyst as the fundraiser because purple is a color of the Los Angeles Lakers, an icon of the City of Angels.
For consumers shopping for Valentine’s Day or a February birthday (amethyst is the month’s birthstone)—or, really, any occasion—it doesn’t get better than finding a great piece of jewelry and contributing to a worthy cause by buying it.
