Ian’s unlikely career began when he volunteered to teach high school in Sierra Leone more than 50 years ago and has led him to become a leading advocate for ending the “blood diamond” trade. Ian discusses his quest to improve life for artisanal miners, the threats they face from the rise of lab-grown stones, and his new memoir about a life dedicated to combating global poverty.

Seattle coffee shopThe Women’s Jewelry Association Seattle chapter is hosting its third annual goal-setting event at the KEXP gathering space and coffee shop. Christine Heidel of Stórica Studio will be sharing goal-setting tips to help attendees stay motivated in 2025. Enjoy coffee from Cafe Vita and have a meeting of the minds with jewelers in the Seattle community.

WJA Providence New Year’s Party: Jan. 7, 5:30 p.m. ET (in person)

Kick off 2025 with the Women’s Jewelry Association Providence chapter at its New Year’s party at the Trap North. Food is included, and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $30 for members and $40 for guests.

Original Miami Beach Antique Show: Jan. 9–13 (in person)

They don’t call it the Original Miami Beach Antique Show for nothing. More than 600 dealers from over 30 countries showcase vintage art, jewelry, home decor, and timepieces at this popular event, which takes over the Miami Beach Convention Center. The treasure trove includes the Modern & Contemporary Pavilion, which features an eclectic mix of art, from abstract and surreal to minimalist to pop. On Jan. 11 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., all valid ticket holders are invited to Appraisal Day, where they can meet with a Bonhams expert and receive one complimentary valuation.
