Britt’s Pick: Forms’ Emerald Shakudo Ring

Share

“Green Grows the Holly.” “Greensleeves.” And Barenaked Ladies’ classic “Green Christmas” (oh yes, I’m serious). This time of year there’s no escaping green—one of the holidays’ major colors.

But of all the greens that decorate our lives this holiday season, an exceptionally good green gemstone tops them all. Case in point: the Shakudo ring from Hong Kong–based jewelry brand Forms.

Combining high jewelry design with a free-spirited aesthetic, Forms’ pieces are masterful and very interesting, as I’m sure you’ll agree about the ring pictured here, with an awesome cabochon emerald at its center.

Forms’ ring stands out even more thanks to its belt of shakudo (a traditional Japanese alloy of copper and gold), which adds a distinctive—and somehow both earthy and futuristic—touch.

“The cabochon emerald in this ring is a truly remarkable antique stone—one we searched for tirelessly and selected with great care for its exceptional quality and character,” says Tzvika Janover, founder and creative director of Forms. “Finding side stones worthy of such a centerpiece was no small feat. The process was meticulous, with every detail carefully considered to ensure the stones would enhance and complement the emerald’s unparalleled brilliance.”

I don’t know about you, but I think I could lose a couple of hours just staring into the hypnotic green depths of the center gemstone, but I love how its shakudo band lends contrast to my field of vision, lest I become too entrenched.

“The design of this ring is inspired by the serenity of nature,” Janover continues. “For me, the deep, earthy tones of shakudo and the vibrant green of the emerald conjure the tranquility of walking through a quiet forest. Shakudo has a dark, rich patina that creates a stunning contrast against the vivid green of the emerald. After years of exploring this unique and versatile material, it seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with the timeless beauty of ancient craftsmanship.”
