Britt’s Pick: Vivaan’s Paraiba Cloud Ring

Share

Has the spirit of the season captured you yet? If you’re working in retail, it’s difficult to avoid—decorations are going up, windows decked out in elaborate scenes, lights glittering on buildings and trees in cities and suburbs alike.

Our home has been attired for the holidays from the moment the calendar turned to November, but now it’s beginning to feel real. Viewing the world through Christmas-colored glasses, nearly anything can look festive.

That goes double for jewels. If people were Christmas trees, jewelry would be their ornaments, and certainly no holiday is complete without festive ornamentation. From silver and gold to bright diamonds and richly hued gems, every jewel has a place to sparkle during this season and into the next.

I’ve got a wish list a mile long of jewels for every holiday-themed occasion, and near the top is this wintry blue ring from New York–based brand Vivaan. The cabochon paraiba tourmaline at its center is like an icy pond, crackling beneath the surface with frozen crystals, gently graced by the blades of ice skates.

The globular stone is held steady in a ring of diamonds—a dusting of fresh snow, maybe—and further down are four step-like rows of paraiba accents. On both sides of the ring, special-cut diamonds sit like the bows on gift-wrapped packages—just the finishing touch this perfect-for-the-season wonder warranted.

I’m not looking forward to the temperatures dropping enough to freeze a pond, mind you, but this time of year wouldn’t quite be so magical without that, at least on the East Coast. In warmer locales, the ring’s name—Cloud—might stir thoughts of dreamy, fluffy fun. Wherever you are and however you celebrate the season, we all can agree: This piece is a treasure for the holidays and (well) beyond.
