Pinterest Sees Pop Culture, Sports, Vintage Trends for Halloween

The Pinterest 2024 Halloween Trend Report offers a fun glimpse at looks that customers might be into during the spooky season.

Searches for costumes this year heavily favor pop culture, with Pinners showing an interest in both new stars and icons. While it won’t matter much to a jeweler that its young customer base wants to dress like Sabrina Carpenter or Olivia Rodrigo for Halloween, it might be beneficial to note that celebrities are influencing shoppers’ choices, and could start the next big jewelry trend (or reinforce ones already happening). All this to say, to stay ahead of what the most fashion-forward consumers will want in the months ahead, keep an eye on what the hot young celebs are wearing.

Pinterest notes that sports-inspired fashions are also trending for Halloween, as well as “gothic glam.” The latter term was coined by Pinterest to cover makeup-related searches ranging from “romantic goth” to “The Crow” (referring to both the new and classic versions of the film). JCK recently shared a roundup of jewels fit for the current whimsigoth aesthetic—perfect for Halloween, though we think these styles will last beyond October.

In a section of the report titled “Beastly Beauty,” Pinterest details several animal-inspired makeup looks its users are searching for—including cheetah print, leopard print, and, uh, deer. These could translate to some wild costumers, and they make us wonder if shoppers are more keen than ever on animal-inspired jewels. We think yes.

The report offers a look at a pretty big variety of trending searches, but one segment that seems especially relevant to the jewelry industry is vintage Halloween decor. Searches for items from the ’70s and ’90s and terms like hippie, disco, and boho are significant in jewelry because we know even a home decorating aesthetic easily spills into fashion and accessories. Whether inspired by the eras before us or authentically old, vintage jewels are guaranteed to keep a hold on shoppers in the year to come.
