It’s a cliché to describe fine jewelry as wearable art, but in the case of the sculptural gold jewels featured here, it’s the only descriptor that fits.
First, however, let’s address the (golden) elephant in the room: Yes, we know gold is obscenely expensive. The odd thing is that doesn’t seem to be stopping anyone. Certainly not designers, who’ve embraced the yellow metal in its simplest form, sans stones. (Well, alright, Rainbow K’s Waterfall necklace, below, has a few diamond spacers, but everything else we’ve featured is pure unadorned gold.)
In fact, rather than shying away from gold in all its costly glory, designers seem to be suggesting that the very point is to think of the metal as portable wealth, and flaunt it in styles that show off its luster, warmth, and malleability.
From earrings with oversize, organic silhouettes to sleek rings and bracelets that underscore gold’s ability to be shaped into dramatic, eye-catching forms, the power of gold is evident everywhere this season—and not just at checkout.
