Rapper Jay-Z has invested in Wristcheck, the Hong Kong–based watch marketplace founded by Instagram influencer Austen Chu.
Terms were not disclosed.
In a statement, Chu called Jay-Z “the most influential celebrity watch collector of the 21st century.
“His lyrics not only introduced me to watch brands like Audemars Piguet but also fueled my love for watches even further, as he bridged the gap between watches and pop culture,” said Chu, who founded Wristcheck in 2020 with Hypebeast veteran Sean Wong.
The site is offering a peek at Jay-Z’s watch collection, which he began accumulating in the 1990s.
The Grammy winner is just the latest celebrity to take a stake in an online watch platform. Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has invested in luxury watch marketplace Chrono24, and singer John Mayer backed the 2015 merger of Hodinkee and Watchville.
