Exhibiting since 2012 at JCK, Maria Rzewuska is an interesting and highly worthwhile company to visit during your time in Las Vegas.
Based in Cologne, Germany, Maria Rzewuska represents a beautifully curated, eclectic assortment of independent designers, working with the creators to birth remarkable, artful pieces. In partnering with these artists on design, the brand achieves a versatility while remaining true to its foremost offering: high-quality, artisanal silver jewelry.
Among the impressive treasures to be displayed by Maria Rzewuska at the upcoming JCK show are carbon fiber bracelets designed by Shanghai-born, Poland-based artist Lu Pin in collaboration with her partner Jerzy Malicki. Stones for the cuff bracelets were hand-selected by Szymon Pasek, the son of Maria Rzewuska, and cut by such revered gem cutters as Arthur Krutsch and John Dyer.
Most of the work on these bracelets were done by Lu Pin, with technical processes—like the spinning of the carbon fiber—aided by Malicki. It was Pasek who had the idea to combine the carbon fiber with the expertly cut gemstones. This was a true collaborative effort that has paid off.
“The current collection of carbon jewelry was created as a result of harmonious cooperation between our German company and artists,” Pasek tells JCK. “Together we were looking for a new, alternative form that could combine the technologies of new materials with a traditional goldsmith’s workshop in jewelry.
“Our designer, Ms. Lu Pin, a graduate of the faculty of sculpture at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, suggested using carbon fiber for our experiments, which in her opinion would go well with stones and gold,” Pasek explains.
“As Lu Pin stated, ‘I was looking for harmony and contrast at the same time, I wanted to go beyond the framework of traditional thinking about jewelry art without losing any of its utility values.’ The team of people involved in creating carbon jewelry was guided by the idea of achieving an interesting effect without excessive complexity of form, according to the principle ‘Simple is the most beautiful.'”
One of these carbon fiber bracelets made Maria Rzewuska an Editor’s Choice winner in the $2,501–$10,000 bracelet category of the 2024 JCK Jewelers’ Choice Awards.
This year, Maria Rzewuska is moving out of the Germany pavilion at the JCK show—find them in the Design Collective at booth 14031.
