Brooches and Diamonds Made SAG Awards a Show to Watch

Share

Statement earrings, diamond-studded brooches on men, and bold color as far as the eye could see: Celebrities showed off an array of amazing jewelry as they honored one another for their film and television performances at the 30th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday.

This year’s celebration was the first SAG Awards following the union’s long 2023 strike, and it brought a wealth of trendsetting looks for bling fans. The best pieces included colored gemstone earrings, impressively large brooches, and lots of red, blue, and gold in fashion and jewelry.

The awards show took place at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles and aired live on Netflix. Oppenheimer won outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture, as well as for leading and supporting actors (Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr.), while Succession and The Bear had major wins in TV categories.

Here are some of JCK’s favorite jewels from the night.

Rebecca Hall in Reza

While the actress’ dress seemed like its own piece of jewelry with its sleek, textured look, what grabbed you and wouldn’t let go were her jewels from Reza: white gold Corne d’Abondance earrings with a jaw-dropping 366 rubies and 398 white diamonds, along with a Reza Dune white gold cuff bracelet with mother-of-pearl and diamonds.

Issa Rae in Suzanne Kalan

Nominated with the casts of both Barbie and American Fiction, Rae glowed with the gold and diamonds she wore from Suzanne Kalan, including a Classic Diamond Sparkler Cuff featuring 9.25 carats of baguette and round white diamonds held together with 18k gold spring wire. Kalan calls her jewelry elegant and timeless, and this piece certainly fits that description.

Naomi Watts in Antonia Miletto from Fred Leighton

The Feud: Capote vs. the Swans star attended with new husband Billy Crudup, but what got the jewelry world talking were her dramatic ebony wood earrings from Fred Leighton. Designed by Antonia Miletto, the green from the earrings’ pear-shape emeralds was a perfect hue against Watts’ black Dior dress.

A classic black suit and shirt gave Bomer a stylish yet simple grace that made his Jewels Aficionado diamond brooch the most entrancing part of his ensemble. The antique brooch, made of platinum with round brilliant-cut and baguette-cut diamonds, had movement and sparkle.

If you enjoy ABC’s Abbott Elementary, then you probably already are in love with Chris Perfetti and his character, Jacob Hill. In a tan-and-black tuxedo, Perfetti brought a greatly appreciated whimsy to the silver carpet. On his lapel: an incredible floral brooch by Anabela Chan with cultured baroque freshwater pearls mimicking cherry blossom petals, and lab-grown diamonds for the stems and leaves.

Carey Mulligan in Kwiat, Suzanne Belperron, and Rene Boivin from Fred Leighton

The Maestro nominee is considered a throwback to Old Hollywood talents like Katharine Hepburn with her choices of roles. Mulligan’s SAG look was just as vintage, with a 1930s diamond swirl necklace by Rene Boivin, a 1940s gold and diamond ring by Suzanne Belperron, and Kwiat stud earrings with 3 carats each of round brilliant-cut diamonds.

America Ferrera in De Beers

The Barbie actress (pictured at top) was a constant hum in America’s ears in 2023 with her Oscar-nominated performance and memorable speech in the Greta Gerwig movie. Ferrera brought a tidal wave of diamonds to the SAG Awards with her De Beers jewelry, including a Metamorphosis by De Beers Autumn necklace set in 18k white gold with 12.96 carats of diamonds.

Kieran Culkin in Martin Katz

Martin Katz bejeweled many performers for the SAG Awards, with diamond-dazzling looks on Rhea Perlman and Tantoo Cardinal. But the Katz piece that had JCK editors drooling was a deco lapel pin on Succession star Kieran Culkin. His diamond geometric pin brought back Old Hollywood glamor in the best possible way.
