Ingle & Rhode, one of the first U.K. jewelers that specialized in verified-source jewelry, is closing.
The jeweler has “ceased to trade, and it is intended that the company will shortly go into liquidation,” said a note on its website.
“This decision was not made lightly, and we explored every avenue to try to keep the business going,” according to a statement from the company, which operated out an appointment-only office space.
“The combined effects of the pandemic, inflation, and the economic slowdown have proved too much despite our best efforts,” said the statement. “We can all be proud of what we achieved together, including being one the first jewelers in the world to offer certified Fairtrade gold, and one of the first jewelers to become a B Corp.
“Together we created a pioneering ethical fine jewelry brand that accelerated the adoption of ethical sourcing across the industry.”
Ingle & Rhode was founded in 2007 by management consultant Tim Ingle and documentary producer David Rhode, who wanted to carry items with certified provenance and a positive social benefit.
