Jam + Rico Adds African Influences to Claire’s Jewelry Collab

Share

Jam + Rico founder Lisette Scott says that for her second collaboration with Claire’s, she created one of her most personal jewelry collection ever, honoring African culture and craftsmanship and fostering meaning for wearers.

Claire’s debuted Jam & Rico’s new 18k gold-plated rings, earrings, bangles, and necklaces on Jan. 25. They range in price from $24.99 to $54.99 and are available online and in Claire’s stores nationwide. The retailer introduced its first line of jewelry from Jam + Rico last summer.

Inspired by traditional African art and architecture, the new collection reflects Scott’s travels and memories, she says, and it bridges the two worlds most important to her: global fashion and African cultural traditions.

Jam + Rico’s second collaboration with the Claire’s retail chain includes a choker, squiggle-shape jewels, and rings and earrings inspired by cowrie seashells.

“I was captivated by the diversity and history embedded in each piece,” the designer says. “It was a culmination of my admiration for the vibrant artistic traditions and the profound impact of African architecture. This collection is a celebration of that beauty and a homage to the artistic legacy that continues to inspire me.

“Each design is a reflection of my journey, experiences, and intricate stories embedded in African art,” says Scott. “It goes beyond aesthetics—it’s about encapsulating the spirit, resilience, and diverse narratives of the African continent.

“The collection is a tapestry of emotions and cultural echoes, weaving together my own interpretations with the profound depth of African heritage,” she adds. “It’s an intimate exploration that transcends mere fashion, aiming to evoke a sense of connection and appreciation for the beauty that transcends time and borders.”

Claires Jam Rico Cowrie Earring
Cowrie earrings ($34.99) have an organic feel that brings life to their rounded shape.

Among the Jam + Rico x Claire’s standouts are the cowrie shell ring with a bulbous dome shape and inlaid stones for sparkle. It pairs beautifully with the cowrie hoop earrings, offering a touch of the beach with their seashell design.

The most dramatic looks come from the rigid choker—which hugs the neck with a royal elegance—and the squiggly ring, earrings, and cuff bracelet. Their undulating design gives the pieces movement and interest.

Scott founded Jam + Rico in 2016, naming it for Jamaica and Puerto Rico in an homage to her Caribbean roots. She has traveled extensively, and says the beauty she has found across the globe inspires her jewelry designs.

The choker necklace ($54.99) adds a regal air to the Jam + Rico x Claire’s collection.

“The ethos of Jam + Rico lies in creating jewelry that not only captivates with its visual allure but also reflects a commitment to social responsibility,” Scott says. “Every piece tells a story of heritage, craftsmanship, and a shared journey toward a more conscious and interconnected world.”

According to her design philosophy, jewelry should have meaning and purpose in addition to its role as ornamentation. “I aim to share not just beautiful accessories but stories and legacies,” Scott says. “It’s a way of preserving cultural heritage, celebrating craftsmanship, and fostering a deeper connection between the wearer and the artistry.

“Jewelry becomes more than an accessory—it becomes a tangible representation of the rich tapestry of African traditions, carrying with it the spirit of those who craft it and the stories it holds. In this, there is a powerful fusion of beauty and cultural resonance that transcends mere adornment.”
