The pearl, sapphire, and diamond necklace worn by Audrey Hepburn in the final scene of Roman Holiday is the star of Christie’s upcoming Jewels Online: The Geneva Edit sale, which will place from Nov. 3–16.
The piece carries an estimate of 18,000 to 26,000 Swiss Francs, or about $21,000 to $29,000. Designed by Fürst, a noted postwar Italian jeweler, the necklace is made of two strands of round cultured pearls and holds 6 cts. of diamonds, set with round and oval-shaped sapphire cabochons.
Hepburn was a longtime pearl aficionado. Single-strand pearl necklaces and pearl stud earrings became part of her signature look, according to the auction house. The actress won the 1953 Academy Award for Roman Holiday, playing a young royal on a voyage of self-discovery.
