Q&A: Nadine Tacorian Arzerounian on the Quiet Luxury of Tacori’s New Collection

Like a mantra to instill calm, Tacori’s new Stilla jewels use repetition to allow people a moment of peace in a chaotic world—and it doesn’t hurt that they make an elegant statement at the same time.

“With the Stilla collection, we’ve given traditional silhouettes a Tacori twist, giving the wearer a versatile, sophisticated, and unique classic piece of jewelry,” says Tacori’s head of design, Nadine Tacorian Arzerounian.

She says the collection, which came out Aug. 2, could be described as “quiet luxury,” a term that gained traction in the past year to describe something that is well made and exudes lavishness. While the phrase is trendy, those qualities are what Tacori does best, Arzerounian says, so Stilla fits right in with the brand’s other collections.

Tacori’s Stilla collection of rings, necklaces, and earrings get their sense of movement and meaning from the droplet shapes of their pear-cut diamonds.

Stilla includes hoop earrings, tennis bracelets, rings, and other pieces, priced from $2,990 to $24,990. JCK spoke to Arzerounian about the new line and what it means to Tacori as a whole.

How did you decide on the name and style for Stilla?

I love this collection so much. In Latin, the word stilla translates to “droplet.” Water is such a peaceful element, the way it can move so fluidly and at the same time in such precise, soothing repetition. This is what inspired the design language. The collection features delicate strings of droplet-like diamonds. The pear-shape diamond is a very popular shape within our bridal jewelry collections, and we knew that this fancy shape, in fine jewelry, would set us apart.

It epitomizes quiet luxury to me. How do you describe it?

I love how delicate the pear shapes are, but they still give that strong diamond intense look that everyone loves. This collection adds timeless sophistication to any outfit, day or night. I wear the tennis bracelet from this collection everywhere I go.

There is such a sense of motion to these pieces—why did you want this, and how did your craftspeople create it?

It is such a satisfying feeling to put on a piece of jewelry that moves with you. Movement, flexibility, and texture is important when we design any piece of jewelry. Within the Stilla collection, each diamond represents a drop of water. When strung together, they create a captivating, powerful and soothing illusion of movement. The positioning and precise location of each link is important when trying to achieve this. This collection really showcases the undeniable skill of Tacori artisans.

The milgrain detail is so deft here. How does it play out in the Stilla collection?

Milgrain detail has been a part of our design language since I could remember—it’s where small beads of metal are carefully and individually placed on the jewelry to create decorative borders. It adds a classic, handcrafted finish to our modern collection.

What else can I share about this jewelry?

I’m thrilled to see the current popularity of classic, timeless pieces of jewelry, like the tennis bracelet and the Riviera necklace. But I’ve always loved interpreting classics through a unique lens. Why be the exact same as everyone else?
