We just finished our analysis of the first half of 2012’s JCKonline traffic, and I’m thrilled to report we hit a historic milestone in the month of May: The three key areas of JCKonline.com—the news, show, and JCKmarketplace—received 1,009,344 page views!
For those not initiated into the world of online traffic measurement, that means the 134,671 individuals who came to JCKonline’s news area, the 81,414 individuals who visited the site’s show content, and the 19,696 individuals who came to JCK Marketplace viewed more than 1 million pages of content combined. In other words, that’s a whole lotta traffic!
So what does this mean for the industry and for the JCK brand? For the industry, it means that the Internet is a more legitimate source of news, content, and product and show information than ever before. For JCK, it means that our “Industry Authority” tagline truly applies to the Web now as well. Industry execs acknowledge (through their taps and clicks) that they want real-time information, practical knowledge, and the latest product as complements to the longer-form articles the magazine has traditionally provided.
A toast to Walter Adler Chefitz (second from left) in JCK Rock Star’s final episode
Best of all, this traffic and attention doesn’t come at the expense of the other aspects of the JCK brand. The industry continues to attend our shows in growing numbers; we still have more than 25,000 subscribers to our magazine (with a full reach of 75,000 readers per issue); and according to our most recent research, 70 percent of our online readers enjoy the magazine too. It’s a great time for the JCK brand.
Speaking of online excitement, I was thrilled to accept the Print/Video award at the Integrated Marketing Awards ceremony held by min (Media Industry Newsletter), a trade magazine in the publishing and online arenas. JCK won the award for our first-ever original online video series, JCK Rock Star, sponsored by Swarovski Gems. The other two finalists were both from Time Inc. Needless to say, we were humbled to be in the company of projects from one of the publishing industry’s goliaths! Congrats go to our amazing producer, Kate Ottenberg, and her team! And many thanks again to our sponsor Swarovski Gems for making the series possible. If you haven’t viewed the award-winning series, go to jckonline.com/rockstar to see what all the fuss is about.
Finally, congrats to the teams at the SMART Show and Select Show on their recent Dallas events. The Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center was an ideal location for the Smart Show (one could spend all four days within the complex, with no need to leave), and the Ritz-Carlton in downtown Dallas was an elegant spot for Select. We enjoyed seeing so many of our friends and advertisers at this key time of year, and wish both shows continued success.
Next up is my annual Southern California crawl, headlined by the GIA Career Fair in Carlsbad and the 24 Karat Club of Southern California black-tie gala in Beverly Hills. It’s tough work, but someone’s gotta do it. See you there!
