Remember candy dots? Not the fruity gumdrops (Dots) still sold in movie theaters, but the hard Candy Buttons—tiny dollops of sugar in various colors and affixed to scrolls of white adding-machine paper. They were an odd choice for a candy because they really didn’t taste that good—especially when you inadvertently swallowed some of the paper—but they were a staple nonetheless in my childhood, and a real treat for good behavior. So when Manhattan-based Old World Chain unveiled its candy dot–esque collection of sterling and enamel jewelry over the summer, nostalgia hit hard, and I couldn’t get my hands on pieces (orange earrings and a matching pendant) fast enough. These candy-like cool jewels may make you yearn for a simpler time, but their kid-friendly prices won’t leave you with a bitter aftertaste.
