Roll out the royal red carpet. From April 5 through Oct. 29, Kensington Palace will host its largest exhibition to date, “Crown to Couture,” with over 200 opulent pieces on display.
“Crown to Couture” is one of the few scenarios (if not the only one) in which jewels from both the Georgian court of 18th-century Britain and the Met Gala are in the same vicinity. The exhibition will feature pieces worn by stars such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Emily Blunt, Cate Blanchett, and more.
“Dressing for the Georgian court may feel like a distant custom, but ‘Crown to Couture’ will shine a new light on these historic traditions by directly placing them in conversation with similar high-profile fashion events of today,” said Claudia Acott Williams, curator at Historic Royal Palaces. “We’re thrilled to be collaborating with a wide variety of well-known fashion houses and jewelry designers in order to explore the fascinating world of the Georgian court through a new contemporary lens.”
Jewels will be displayed alongside celebrity fashions, including Lizzo’s Thom Browne dress from the 2022 Met Gala and Lady Gaga’s green ballgown by Christoper John Rogers from the 2020 MTV Awards, as well as attire once donned by Georgian courtiers.
Access to “Crown to Couture” is included in admission to Kensington Palace.
