There had already been talk of brooches having a big year in 2023.
And then the Super Bowl halftime show happened.
Clad in monochromatic red (in case you’re wondering why you suddenly want all of your clothes to be that shade), our girl Rihanna took to a floating stage sparkling with not one, not two, but three vintage diamond brooches, all from Joseph Saidian & Sons, a New York-based family business.
Celebrities, dressed in their finest, are certainly no strangers to brooches. The jewels were fastened to many a lapel for some of our favorite recent red-carpet moments (most of them courtesy of Timothée Chalamet)—a prelude to the burgeoning men’s jewelry market that has since expanded into genderless wear that is by far the most exciting development in our industry of late.
Brooches became such a man’s game that to see them on Rihanna felt novel, even if brooches have been worn by women for decades, centuries even.
But that’s the thing about a superstar like Rihanna: She could probably make even some of the worst fashions look good—and brooches certainly do not count among them. Not only were the brooches a noticeable element of the singer’s ensemble, but the trio grouping has inspired us to play with our jewelry—even the vintage statement pieces. With a number of new brooch lines being introduced already this year, it’s as good a time as any to start adding more to our collections (both personal and in-store).
