On March 12, De Beers Consolidated Mines turned the grand old age of 125.
De Beers operations around the world celebrated the milestone.
“Today, De Beers celebrates 125 years of diamond industry leadership,” said De Beers CEO Philippe Mellier. “This anniversary provides us with a moment to reflect on all that has been built by those who came before us, and on what we can achieve as we move forward.”
De Beers Consolidated Mines, named for two brothers whose farm housed a mine, was founded in 1888 in Kimberley, South Africa. Its founding chairman was Cecil Rhodes.
