On Oct. 12, Hindman auction house will host its live Watches sale in Chicago, with 134 timepieces hitting the block. The sale will include well-known names such as Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Richard Mille, Rolex, Chopard, and plenty of others at estimated price points for entry-level buyers and seasoned collectors alike. Below are some of the rarest, most exquisite timepieces from the auction.
Featuring Audemars Piguet’s Equation of Time complication, which displays the difference between the length of the actual solar day and the mean solar day, this particular timepiece is the Phoenix edition with the sunset and sunrise indicators programmed to that region. It has a maroon leather strap and pink gold bezel and case.
Richard Mille’s limited-edition RM005 commemorates an iconic collaboration with Brazilian race car driver Felipe Massa, who challenged the watchmaker to develop a piece that could resist Formula 1’s high g-forces while still being easy to wear. It began as a friendly competition between the friends and became a state-of-the-art timepiece that can withstand all of the vibrations and elements that come along with Formula 1 racing. The rare wristwatch features a skeletonized dial with white Arabic numerals, a date indicator, and self-winding movement.
Breitling’s blinged-out white gold and diamond limited-edition chronograph isn’t just about looks: It actually has an emergency feature that the brand introduced in 1995 for pilots, aircrew, and others who might confront an emergency situation.
Lastly, Audemars Piguet has another highlight in the sale: the Jules Audemars tourbillon chronograph. Named after the cofounder of the brand, Jules Louis Audemars, the piece pays tribute to its heritage by exemplifying what Audemars Piguet does best: timeless, precise watchmaking.
