Who doesn’t love a good sunset? It’s one of the earth’s many natural treasures, a showing of beauty, peace, and love to end the day.
If you’ve ever sat quietly, alone or with a loved one, taking in a magical sunset (the location doesn’t even matter), you might have wished you could bottle it. You can’t, of course, but there are jewelry designs out there that come close.
Many of those have been painted in colored sapphires or other gemstones, bright and beautiful. But Ellis Mhairi Cameron has made an ode to sunset collection in diamonds, something you don’t see quite so often.
Inspired by the sunsets of the designer’s native Scottish Highlands, Dusk consists of yellow, red, orange, and gray diamonds in alternative cuts set in a collection of rings, pendants, and earrings.
“I specialize in natural colored diamonds and have noticed a vast increase in the last few months with clients opting for more unusual shades,” says Cameron. “From the more autumnal baguettes I use to the cleaner, brighter icy whites and soft greens, my clients engage with unique shades. The one-of-a-kind nature of many of my diamonds is allowing all my stockists to have unique offerings, which means we effectively sold out of most of the one-of-kind pieces by the end of the trip [in the U.S.]. Seeing clients fall in love with the details and craftsmanship is special to me.”
The autumnal hues of the collection suit this time of year perfectly, satiating our desire for more of that pumpkin spice color story, like a warm cozy hug and a gentle cool breeze. Clients searching for a special piece that they won’t see on anyone else have it in this new lineup of treasures, and that goes equally for those on the hunt for an engagement ring. Whether these shoppers should be the subject of envy is the question—there are so many gorgeous choices out there, but then again, there are so many gorgeous choices out there.
“It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, but it should be an enjoyable process, and I’m here for my clients to help guide them,” the designer says. “I purposefully have an engagement guide on my website that briefly explains the process and the options, as there are lots of opportunities to consider. When clients come in for an appointment, we discuss things like the jewelry they own and their lifestyle—it needs to fit with you and become an extension of yourself. I always encourage people to try a range of things, even just for fun, as it’s not until you try something on that you get that visceral reaction to a piece. I think it’s essential to trust your gut and stay true to your aesthetic—your jewelry needs to feel authentic to you.”
