Cigar bands, sometimes known as cylinder rings, are the wedding jewelry equivalents of a classically tailored suit: They boast a perennially chic vibe thanks to clean lines that lend the designs a resolutely modern feel (not to mention an enduring cross-gender appeal).
They’re also the opposite of dainty, their boldness offering a refreshing counterpoint to the thin, stackable styles that have lately ruled the bridal scene.
From gold bands that look like engagement rings (check out Walters Faith’s fetching pear-shape diamond solitaire) to plain gold wedding rings, extreme in their simplicity (see SHW’s trapezoidal style with its alluring highly polished sheen), the cigar band style is a great option for brides seeking a wide gold wedding ring or an alternative to the traditional prong-set engagement ring.
Designed to evoke the paper band that encircles a cigar, they are most often seen with smooth, polished surfaces. Lately, however, designers are shaking things up a bit, loosely reinterpreting the cigar band in a slew of styles—including the nine new designs featured here, which offer a sample of the category’s astonishing breadth.
Textured or smooth, gem set or plain, the cigar band is the modern bride’s hot (dare we say, smoking?) new accessory.
