When Oscar Massin, a luxury jewelry brand named after a pioneering 19th-century French jeweler, was revived earlier this year, its ambitions in the wedding jewelry market were still under wraps. That changed in late July, when the brand introduced its first sustainable engagement ring collection, Liberté.
Set with climate-neutral, lab-grown Latitude Diamonds produced by WD Lab Grown Diamonds in Maryland, the collection marks one of the man-made diamond industry’s first major incursions into luxury branded bridal territory.
Liberté features round and fancy shape stones up to 10 carats in size (bigger stones are often special orders). Mounted in the brand’s signature styles, including a filigree motif that recalls the threads of a couture gown, the rings are customizable; shoppers can select their preferred metal as well as color, clarity, and carat size.
Stylist Rachel Zoe and actress Kate Hudson are investors in the brand, which was brought to market by Paris-based Luximpact, a company that revives historic French jewelry labels using a sustainable and progressive business model.
The range leans heavy on classic solitaires or single-stone styles embellished with pavé diamonds on the shank.
But the halo style is also prominently featured in the brand’s Majesté range (available with single or double halos).
Lastly, Oscar Massin offers a selection of simple wedding bands, with or without diamonds.
The collection doesn’t take many design risks (yet), but its classic, mostly understated rings offer a glimpse of how a 21st-century jewelry investment group co-opting a historic jeweler’s heritage is reimagining the luxury wedding ring category for Gen Z consumers. En garde!
