It’s Labor Day Weekend. If this week’s agenda is any indication, the post-summer schedule promises to be action-packed. If you’re in or near Denver, don’t miss the HardRock Summit and nearby Ethical GemFair. And clear the agenda for Thursday—it’s Jewelry Night Out!
SHOP
Ethical GemFair in Arvada, Colo.: Sept. 6–7 (in person)
Balefire Goods in Arvada, a northwest suburb of Denver, is hosting Ethical Gem Suppliers for the in-person Ethical GemFair this week. Open to the trade only, the event brings together dealers specializing in fair-trade gems sourced from artisanal and small-scale miners.
HardRock Summit in Denver: Sept. 8–11 (in person)
Back for its second year in downtown Denver, the HardRock Summit is now a consolidated affair at the Colorado Convention Center, home to both Evolution, the fair’s mineral and fossils section, and Sparkle & Joy, which is dedicated to fine jewelry and gemstones. The event is quickly becoming a mini-Tucson for color lovers. But keep in mind that it’s best suited to “designers, rock hounds, and craftspeople,” as Eric Braunwart, founder of Vancouver, Wash.–based Columbia Gem House, a two-time exhibitor, recently told JCK managing director Melissa Bernardo.
The Armory Show in New York City: Sept. 9–11 (in person)
Contemporary and modern art gallerists descend on the Javits Center to exhibit at The Armory Show. The Brazilian jewelry firm Sauer will make its first appearance at the fair, joining a prestigious stable of artists and art world luminaries.
ATTEND
