While known for their luxurious jewels often donned on red carpets, Cartier also has a knack for elevating everyday objects. Since its founding in 1847, the house has been sophisticating compacts, pocket mirrors, small combs, and plenty more from their typically mundane state. Just last year, the brand introduced an updated, elegant essential (well, six of them): a luxury fragrance case. And now, it’s expanding the collection with the release of a graphic, black-and-white edition exclusive to the New York City location.
Beyond luxury, there’s also a sustainability angle to the cases. Compatible with a fragrance collection of 19 options (including signature scents La Panthère, Pasha Edition Noire, and others), the cases house refillable 30 mL glasses into which the scents are poured and held in place by a custom-designed magnet.
“In our time, when it is even more important to rethink our product development to lower our environmental impact, we had to think about the transmission of our olfactory heritage,” Mathilde Laurent, Cartier’s in-house perfumer, explains to JCK. “We can assess a maison’s legitimacy and nobility in the way it handles its olfactory legacy. In other words, how the maison manages to keep all of its creations available for the clients. The goal with the Nécessaires à Parfum collection was to develop a very precious, recyclable refill that could contain all our fragrances and that could fit in a sublime case. The case can be kept for life, reused, restored, and passed on from one generation to another.”
Available in mid-September, the newest case (and all of the others) can be further customized with hot-stamped initials.
